Great speeches and scenes in the movie
geschrieben von WoSchi
A great speech or scene can define a movie and make it exceptiona and unforgettable. Many speeches lose sense in translation into other languages - so here I ask you to share your favorite speeches and scenes ..

I will start with two scenes from the 1992 movie "Scent of a Woman" (Der Duft der Frauen) with Al Pacino playing the leading part.

The movie tells the story of a preparatory school student who takes a job as an assistant to an irascible, blind, medically retired Army officer. (Al Pacino)....

Scent in the balltoom when the blind Army officer start to dance tango ...(starting 3:40

Scent of Al Pacinos speech at the end:

What a great idea, shame that nowadays hardly anyone reads or posts here. Myself I will not start now, because I will be away for 3 months without much of a chance of internet.
The Charie Chaplin speech is great. The words so true!

thank you yoli - yepp, it's somehow a pity that there is but who knows .. things can always change
One reason may be that threats from this part of ST don't show up in the current posts ,,
Here two more great speeches

The first is from "Good Will Hunting" with Robin Wikkiams and Matt Damon

and also the second clip is a Robin Williams movie .. scene is taken from "Dead Poets Society" where the students tribute to their teacher Mr. Keating (Robin Williams) who taught them think different, to seize the day (carpe diem) and to stand up for what is right.

Well, if this thread is purely about famous speeches as well as scenes from movies we like, then I'd like to remind you of this dialogue which always moves me everytime I watch it:

Yes, occasionally, "speeches" can boil down to being just touching confessions like these ones.

There are certainly many reasons why this section seems to be as dead as a doornail. I'd already written earlier on that Karl is right in pointing out that a critical mass of writers is missing, which leads to a cascade of consequences that we all know of. But there are other reasons as well, many of which have already been mentioned by former contributors. The fact that posts in this section are not listed in "recent posts" may be of minor importance. I have a hunch that even if they were, it would not change anything because anyone interested in this section will keep checking if there are new posts regardless of whether they appear in the recent contributions list or not.
Anyway, just to put in my two cents.

Hi Fedi don’t despair tomorrow I will listen to the last two speeches. The first I loved. When I am able to, I will look into this part of the forum. Take care. Till soon
Love Yoli

The Newsroom is an American television political drama series created and principally written by Aaron Sorkin. The 25-episode series is set behind the scenes at the fictional Atlantis Cable News (ACN) and revolves around anchor Will McAvoy and the team behind him. Premiered on US-TV on June 24, 2012, and concluded on December 14, 2014, consisting of 25 episodes over three seasons, with episodes 52 to 73 minutes in length. Here is a great speech about why America isn’t great anymore (but can Be again - for sure not with the actual president but this is another story)

Will McAvoy (Jeff Daniels) hits the nail straight on the head in the opening minutes - He is asked by a college student a simple question during a campus debate. 'What makes America the greatest country in the world?'. Daniels initially goes the politically correct route then at the last minute goes with a honest, bold, straight forward answer that sums up a lot of the worlds problems that so many are afraid to accept because we all want to believe in our system and that it is our system that works. The evidence that is out there today is to the contrary and he discloses such information in his argument. We used to be the worlds best of the best and now we are just pretending. The first step to solving a problem is to admit there is one.
Just watch and listen:

Does anyone know why posts in this section are not listed in recent posts? Perhaps it would make a difference if they were. After all, I (new to ST) only found this section more or less accidentially. From now on I will check it for new posts occasionally, of course, hoping they will keep my English from rusting

hi Tina
it is nice to see you here. Of course it would be nice if some of us look into this thread to see if one can contribute anything. I have a problem if the dialogs are too long. My concentration goes out of the window.
Let’s see if we can put some life in to it
