Dear Phil
how nice to see you here in this thread.
We can have fun to pick on the English language, or at any rate just use it in order not to get stale.
Have nice Christmas days and above all, a happy New Year.
Greetings, take care
Yoli

Since my retirement the opportunity to speak or write the language is very rare.
I often have to read a good english book , or at least an english newspaper to improve.
Also for you, dear Yoli, nices hollidays.    😉  Phil.

Retirement brings the time for leisure. I read a lot in English but I miss the conversation since being at home. Therefore I used to attend English classes for advanced leaners with a native speaking teacher. There we usually are about 12  participants, most of them - like me - missing their job and practice in conversation.
But now Corona has changed everything. The rest of our class is still online, which I didn't  join because of my lack of virtual knowledge; I must wait until they start the normal class again - hope it won't last until I forget the rest of my English.
In the meantime I enjoy the English news  in here.
Now- Phil, have a good time and a cosy evening..   Bye Rosemarie

I'd think you aren't in need of a good english book but one (or several) written by James Herriot. He's written the right books for pet lovers, just like you.😉

Fortunately we don’t have a bad egg in here!

Meaning, we have no one who fails to meet expectations!

Hello Yoli,
this one I didn't know at all.
I want to wish a happy X-mas day to all our English followers. And  main thing: don't meet the Covid-19, whatever it takes!
Have a nice evening - Rosemarie

I’m convinced after the vaccinations it’s becoming 2021 fast normal again, the challenge will be, to have not fear about the vaccination.
There are already many dead, 1,7 million worldwide 😔
Phil.
