ginabeate, your English is OK. We are not teachers but only participants wanting to correspond.
I am a nurse and trust doctors. I have experienced that it is oft our fault if we get bad advice and treatment from doctors because we are not interested in our body. We know our purse and kitchen utensils better than what is happening with our body and our health. IF we talk to our doctor as to a partner they will want to help and together we arrive (somewhere)
That is what I do experience.

What do you like most in the ST ?

Hello gina and hello everybody,

I almost overlooked your question because it was not highlighted. I did that here and will do so again at the end of my answer if you don't mind.

As I wrote in my profile, the biggest asset of this forum clearly is the high number of participants followed by that of the age group of 50 plus. If a forum is too small, it tends to be constrained in every respect, i.e. not enough traffic, opinions, topics, experience, communication, posts, etc. As a result, it quickly gets boring and, in addition, newbies will find it hard to be truly accepted. At the surface, they will, but actually, it will take a long time until they become real members. Smaller forums are often a kind of closed shop. New members need to "fit in", i.e. there are certain expectations, a certain code which one has to meet and use, respectively.

As for the other aspect, age, it really makes a difference and this difference is positive. Take it from me, the tone in other forums is often aggressive and inflammatory (we touched on that earlier on here in this thread) because a lot of forums are dominated by younger people, predominantly self-opinionated males. In other words, "Trop de jeunesse et peu d'experience", as one Lady once put it some time ago.

So there are at least three questions on offer:
What place would you call your home?
Do you trsut doctors?
What do you like most in the ST ?

Correction. The second question should read:
Do you trust doctors?

Do you trust doctors?

Hi Fedi.
My own experiences are partly very different. At present I´ve got a very good practical practitioner. He was the one who sent me to the right specialists and I can discuss the treatment proposals with him. I know a lot of doctors who don´t bother much about that. The doctors I had earlier just ignored my problems and I was told that it was only psychosomatic. In the meantime I know that the diagnosis I assumed myself, respectively my mother was right. The right treatment started at least 12 years too late.
The doc´s often have not the time they should for the diagnosis and treatment. Talking with the patient means earning less money. And it´s easier for the doc and perhaps for the patient to prescribe a medicine. I mistrust especially the orthopedic surgeons. But I better not write to much. I could get quite angry.

Btw Fedi, I´d like to know what place you would call your home?

Hi ginabeate,
that was nice of you to join us, welcome! The main thing is I guess to understand each other. I think we all make mistakes and practicing is the best thingto do to improve. I realize that a lot is coming back to my mind since I´m writing here.
The English threads are certainly something I like in ST, especially since more contributions are placed. Partly I like the political discussions, even though the one or other user is very rude and behaves ridiculously. But I don´t care much about that. The links provide you with so much information, you´d haven´t have the time to research it all on your own.
The Blogs are partly quite nice. I don´t write there and only to certain themes it may happen that I write a comment. Mostly it seems to me too friendly and I´m a bit anxious to write a more critical comment. I think it would disturb the atmosphere.
Actually I just recognized there is nothing where I would say I like that most.

And I´ve got another Question:
What do you think about vegetarian lifestyle and veganism?

I'm all in favour of it although I'm not a veggie or vegan as such. But I have reduced my meat consumption considerably in the last 25 years, which means that I eat chicken once in a while (i.e. once or twice a month), for example last night when I had a barbecue. I haven't eaten beef for more than twenty years and I don't eat pork if I can avoid it. I don't eat venison or game in general nor do I eat sausage.
I couldn't be a vegan, though. I like dairy products. I'm fond of a Meditaranian diet, especially Italian, i.e. pasta and vegetables and the like.

The reason for all this is not ideological in the narrower sense, although I hope I can do my bit to help reduce meat production. The reason is personal for I believe (.) my diet will help lower the cholesterol level, which is one of my health problems. Anyway, it's easier for me to do without meat than without sweets and cake which I really like. I have a sweet tooth.

When invited, I sometimes find it difficult to see my preferences accepted by the hosts. In most cases dishes are invaribly meat-based and I'm looked at with some suspicion. Well, I just don't care.

What I also noticed is that if you compare the menues of today with those of twenty years ago, a lot has changed. Back then, there was not a single veggie dish on offer which you can find in almost any restaurant nowadays.

Here you go, Hildegard, hi there,

When they are younger, many people want to get away from home and travel the world if at all possible and often settle down somewhere away from home, for personal reasons or because the job requires it. The older they get, though, the more urgent becomes a desire to get back to their roots provided their childhood and the place they grew up were not a traumatic experience.

That holds true for me as well. Home is where I was born. It has predominantly to do with landscape, with nature. I'm used to flat land where clouds can drift, ideally the sea, a coastal landscape, a maritime environment with its folklore, language and music. That's where I feel at one with myself and where I flourish. I wouldn't want to live in hilly or mountainous regions.

I do not necessarily have to live exactly where I grew up but the place should be reachable without too much effort so that I can regularly go there and absorb the genius loci.

Do you trust doctors?

Hi Hildegard and hello to everybody reading

Well, to answer my own question I'd like to say that I largely share what you and Yoli wrote. It goes without saying that a patient should be willing to cooperate, i.e. to see the doctor as a partner, to share as much information as possible, to open up and to inform himself as best he can about his own condition. I'm saying this because, like Yoli, I'm sometimes astonished to note how little some (.) people know about their own body and about medicine in general, i.e. not even the basics and that they ignore therapies that would force them to change their lifestyle. I'm convinced that everybody is capable of informing himself, now with the world and a wealth of information at their fingertips.

Having said that, I also know, of course, that doctors resent patients who consult them and bring an allegedly complete diagnosis along. My experience is, though, that it is helpful if certain aspects or assumptions are mentioned by the patient, sort of in passing just to make sure nothing is forgotten or not taken into account. Leading the horse to the water and hope that he will drink, so to speak.

It all depends, of course, on the doctor, on the disease, on.... on....on... Mind you, I'm not privately insured. So, as a rule, doctors are not amused when I walk into their consulting room. That's why I sometimes pay the whole treatment myself if I consider it important. All of a sudden, they then tend to talk too much. About things I don't want to hear because they are off topic, because I already know them, so that I sometimes feel I have to direct them a little and make them answer the questions I have, not what they consider to be important.

In sum, I tend to trust doctors but only if they keep me fully informed and if I'm allowed to check their advice, perhaps by getting a second opinion. Obviously, if you are unconscious, you have to trust them anyway...

Zitat von bukamary

What do you think about vegetarian lifestyle and veganism?

Here is a question Hildegard put in the Forum.

I could agree with less consumption of meat for many reasons.

A few thoughts pinched out of the Internet

Too much meat increases the risk of death from cardiovascular disease

When it comes to the causes of environmental destruction and overconsumption of resources, the meat industry is at the top of the list

There are many important reasons to support local agriculture, but replacing meat one day per week with plant-based food saves more greenhouse gas emissions than eating an entirely local diet that includes meat.

Why do I have to eat less meat so other people can have lots of kids or drive gas-guzzlers?

Hihi..that is what meat-eaters say

Many environmentalists underestimate the impact of reducing meat consumption. Nearly 60 percent of the carbon footprint of the average American diet comes from animal products, and meat is responsible for land degradation, water pollution, and the direct endangerment and death of wildlife.

By the way…I don’t like meat much

Once in awhile
A cordon bleu
A little bit of lamb
Or chicken wings
Fish only moderately

Obviously I am not alone with my scruples about my treasurous discs. Most I am in sorrow about my shellack discs which are from the beginning of the 20th century. And all the classical discs with famous conductors and solo singers and musicians. It is heart breaking just thinking of it that my "grown-up" children not have the least interest!
Another theme: "Blur" - in the I-net it only says: some game-stuff.
But "mine" is a tool to save Paßwords. And I have already found out a way to avoid it. Because it always shone up, as soon I opened my bank- accounts or anything that need a password. and I have not the slightest idea how it could fasten on my computer. By the time I will find that out as well, how to extinguish it.

New question: How do you conquer a problem you have with the internet?
